Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (AJG) and Willis Tower Watson (WTW) has been informed by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which is now investigating the acquisition of AJG’s WTW contract reinsurance business, Willis Ray.
As part of the newly launched merger investigation, the CMA is inviting comments from any interested parties. Comments can be emailed to Principal Case Officer Liana Sandulescu and Case Officer Marta Fire until 1 October. Competition surveillance, whose offices remain closed until further notice, is unable to deliver documents or correspondence by post or courier.
“The CMA is considering whether or not this transaction, if implemented, would create a relevant consolidation situation under the Unified Provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and, if so, create competition in any UK market for the product or service.” Significant reductions can be expected, ”the regulator said.
The November 2 deadline for announcing the CMA’s decision on whether to sell Willis Ray for the second phase of the investigation is November 2. Watchdog, “Since the time limit for a given case may vary during the merger assessment process for a variety of reasons.”
